Individual Career Development Plan

Timeframe: 1/26/11-4/1/11

I seek to pursue career development for an ongoing individual development project. This project will help me to utilize skills, resources, and activities that I will continually use to develop my career over the course of my life.

As an introvert I must strive to build social capital. As a free spirit I require structure to keep my goals and ambitions in check. To shore up my weaknesses, I will use this project as an ongoing tool to develop important aspects of my career.

SMART Goals
To realize my intention to develop my career, I will pursue the following SMART goals.
1. Mentoring. Receive coaching from a mentor.
2. Modeling. Interview 10 industry leaders whom I wish to emulate career-wise.
3. Connectivity. Connect and build personal relationships with 10 friends/acquaintances per week.
4. Personal Brand Development. Writing personal and professional insights on a blog at least once per week.
5. Process Evaluation. Evaluate the process when complete and offer recommendations to continue this process for long-term career development.

Steps to Reach Goals
To reach my SMART Goals, I will do the following:
1. Mentoring. Select a mentor that can help guide me through my G20 project process. I will record my progress in the blog.
2. Modeling. Select 10 industry leaders from my areas of interest. Develop interview questions that will be to learn how to break into their respective fields and to excel in what I do. I will record my progress in my blog.
3. Connectivity. Create a list of everyone I know. Find articles that they will find interesting. Send them personal notes and build the relationship (focusing on friendship). Spend personal time with them if possible. Use any of the above strategies as needed. Develop a spreadsheet that will track when I last connected with individuals. Add individualized information regarding their likes, family, birthday, and other interesting information.
4. Personal Brand Development. Create a blog and write weekly. Focus on insights in class, from my mentor, interviews, reflections, etc.
5. Process Evaluation. Modify this approach to best suit the next stages of my professional development (i.e., I obtain a job, how should I position myself for the next step in my career, etc.).

Criteria for Success
1. Mentoring. Utilizing coaching as often (as possible) and in a meaningful manner.
2. Modeling. Obtain a total of 10 interviews with industry leaders whom I wish to emulate career-wise.
3. Connectivity. Connect and build personal relationships with 10 friends/acquaintances per week.
4. Personal Brand Development. Writing personal and professional insights on a blog at least once per week.
5. Process Evaluation. Complete a revised process to continue the G20 project for long-term career development.
